The camera might identify food ingredients that are visible around the scale. Make sure that the area around the scale does not contain ingredients that you don’t want to be logged.

Adding Multiple Ingredients to the Same Plate

Your scale is smart — it can detect and log each new ingredient you add without mixing them up.

  1. After logging the first item, the scale will auto-tare so you can add the next ingredient directly onto the same plate.
  2. Just add the next ingredient and press Quick Scan again.
  3. Repeat as needed to build your full meal on one plate.

  1. Remove the previous ingredient(s) from the scale.
  2. Press Tare to reset the scale and begin a new session.
  3. Place the new ingredient on the scale and press Quick Scan.
Live Scan Mode

Use this when you want to log a portion of a packaged food item, especially when additional information present on the package like fat content or brand improves accuracy (e.g. Yoghurt or package of mince).

How to use:

  1. Place the packaged food on the scale.
  2. Press the Scan & Portion button.
  3. (Optional) Place a plate on the scale and press Tare.
  4. Scoop out or divide the amount you want to use.

  3. Your logged ingredients will appear. You can:
    • Swipe left or right to accept or delete items.

  4. Your accepted food appears on the “Tracked Food” tab.
If your scans don’t show up right away, swipe down to refresh the list.

Tracking Custom Recipes

If you’re cooking meals from scratch, like a curry, stew, or anything with custom ingredients, and want to track them more accurately than using a generic database entry, Qalzy lets you build and save your own recipes.

Here’s a video guide to walk you through it.

Prefer step-by-step instructions? See below:

How to create a custom recipe:

  1. Scan each ingredient that goes into your meal using the Quick Scan or Scan & Portion modes (see previous sections).
  2. In the Qalzy app, go to the “From AI Scale” tab and accept the ingredients you just scanned (see previous section).
  3. Navigate to the “Tracked Food” section.
  4. Tap the “…” menu on your meal entry and select “Create Recipe”.
  5. Choose the ingredients you want to include and follow the on-screen instructions to:
    • Name your recipe
    • Set the number of portions the recipe makes
  6. Once saved, your recipe will be available when adding food via the “+” button in the app.
Custom recipes make it easy to log home-cooked meals with improved accuracy, especially when your version is healthier or different from store-bought alternatives.

No-Phone Mode

Qalzy works even when your phone isn’t nearby

Items sync to the app for you to review anytime.

Barcode scanning

  1. Either lay the product flat so the barcode is visible to the camera (for e.g. a can) or hold the product in a 45 degree angle with the barcode pointing to the camera.
  2. Use the live scan button to identify the product.
  3. Scoop out the amount you need if not consuming the entire product and weigh it
  4. Press again the Live scan button.

AI Mistake? No problem. Log now. Edit later

Even if the AI makes a mistake, you don’t need to stop to correct it. You can always edit ingredients later on your phone. This is the most efficient way.
